I am looking for a good audio recorder for taping lectures in school?
Please tell me which one is good and why?
Unless you are a very strong Aural learner, I don't recommend taping lectures. Most students record the class with the intention of listening to it again to fill in the gaps in their notes but find that they are not very useful. The reasons for this include:
1. You have to re-listen to a class you already attended to find one small section you missed.
2. The audio quality is usually pretty poor.
3. Many classes use discussion which makes it hard to follow who is saying what.
It is better to improve your note taking strategies. Remember, you are just trying to jot down the main ideas, not create a transcript of the class. Then, if you are an aural learner, make a recording of yourself reading your notes. Making the recording will expose you to the material again in a novel way. Also, by hearing yourself using your own words, it will make it easier for you to remember.
If you decide to still record the class, be sure to get your professor's permission.
