Which American City Has Made The Best Comeback?
I'm 57 so I have enough length to judge lol.
I think of three cities that are NOTHING like they use to be:
...New York City, Pittsburgh, and Austin.
I say this because...
NYC in the 70's was an organized crime haven with rampant drug problems, and the city was a litterbox. Today the crime is reasonable, the streets are better maintained, and the city is truly a tourists' bastion.
Pittsburgh in the 1960's was a filthy, rustbelt industry hellhole
with rivers that could give a man cancer. Today, Pittsburgh has a GORGEOUS downtown area, the rivers are so improved that Bassmaster tournaments are held in them, and
the heavy industry has been replaced by medicine, robotics, and tech firms, all while maintaining low cost of living. This city is a riser.
And Austin was a dying farmtown subudized by state money. Now it's a BOOMING ultrahip youth haven and music mecca,
with a great vibe and a bar scene that could rival Key West.
Who agrees/disagrees/can add more?
