I want a new flute for Christmas. What kind should I ask for?
I am going into high school next year, and at the moment, I have a brand-less, 3-year-old flute that is almost rusting. I want a new flute with Christmas, (a step up from the beginner flute, preferably one with open holes) and I was wondering what kind I should get. What brand is the best, but still affordable? etc. I really, really, really want one... and my mom won't get it unless i know exactly what it is I want. So, PLEASE prove that you are someone I can trust with my new flute's identity!!!
Armstrong, Gemeinhardt, Emerson, Pearl, Yamaha, and Jupiter --, these brands are known to have a good reputation.
As for what make, I would check with your band director. He/She will know if you are ready for open-hole or not.
As for affordability, new open-hole flutes can be expensive. I got my flute on Craig's List. The flute was originally $1000 dollars, but I got it for $400. The bad thing about Craig's List is that the flutes are used, and could be a piece of junk. The good thing about Craig's List is that you can see the flute before you buy. Before buying, check the pads and make sure that they aren't yellowed. Also check the keys and make sure they don't stick. Search for any major dents or scratches. If the flute isn't in good condition, it could lead to huge repair bills later on.
