I want to play the FLUTE next year in JUNIOR HIGH. I have some questions!?
In 3 months I am starting Junior High (7th grade and 8th grade) and I am taking Beginning Band as my elective. I want to play the flute because it sounds beautiful, people have said it is a challenge, and I absolutely NEED to play an instrument. I am also taking advanced classes so will I be called a nerd?
Okay here are my questions...
1. Will a flute fit in my backpack? The backpack (Dakine Brand) will be 16.5 inches tall.
2. If not for the question above, will I have to carry it around all day in a case because the lockers a small squares about 12in by 12in.
3. I may get braces, will that be a problem?
4. Does the flute give you oppurtunities later in life?
I have been playing flute since 5th grade... that's about 5 years now. I had the same questions, too. I recently got braces too.
The flute is the PERFECT choice!!!
1.)The flute will definitely fit in your backpack. It may look long, but it comes apart into three pieces, so it's compact, and very lite.
2.)The locker should be able to fit your instrument, so no worries.
3.)It does take a little bit of time to get used of the braces, but if you do some mouth exercises like moving your lips or rubbing your lips together, it gets a lot easier. After a few days, you forget that you're wearing braces.
4.) I am only a few years away from college, and I've looked into it; you can get scholarships for college if you play and instrument! In high school, you are usually required to do one type of art, like choir, band, orchestra, or art class, so band counts towards that. You need three or four credits of some type of art.
The flute is one of the best decisions I've ever made, no lie. It's one of my favorite things to do, too. It's not as hard as most people think is, either. Also, if you play flute, you can also play piccolo, because the piccolo is the same exact thing as a flute except it is smaller and higher sounding.
As for being a nerd? I don't think you'll be, and I hope no one else thinks that either. No one ever makes fun of the kids in my band. In fact, we're pretty popular with the other kids.
We get to play at football games and such, so it's a lot of fun. I hope you choose the flute!!!! And I hope this helped.
